[Bug 575182] New: Openoffice.org in kde4 offer no url smb:// functionnality
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575182 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575182#c0 Summary: Openoffice.org in kde4 offer no url smb:// functionnality Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: bnc-team-ooo@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bruno@ioda-net.ch QAContact: cwei@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.0) Gecko/20100115 SUSE/3.6.0-1.2 Firefox/3.6 When you have to work with samba/windows share in a user environnement (aka mounting shares by fstab not allowed) people under kde4 couldn't participate in workgroup. This works under other desktop (Gnome, xfce), or with koffice2 Offer a simple way (like gnome or whatever) to open/create/modify/save document in all kio url supported schemes. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. enter a smb://server/share/my document.odt in open file dialog box under kde4 2. have a dialog warning box saying only local url supported 3. Pray & cry :-) Actual Results: No way to open remote document with openoffice.org & kde4 Tested with ooo-3.2 unstable and kde-4.3.5 / opensuse 11.2 Obs repo Expected Results: ability to open every kio supported scheme like koffice2 can. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Opening a remote file I can make happen. What I do is use KIO to copy that file to a temp location and then its a matter of opening the temp file. The tricky part is the other direction. I dunno if I can setup some sort of file watcher or whatnot to handle that yet. Haven't looked into gnome-vfs. What does interest me is what type of strings I can return from the "getFiles" method in the filepicker. I was under the impression oo wants to open only local files. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575182 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=575182#c5 --- Comment #5 from Bruno Friedmann <bruno@ioda-net.ch> 2010-02-22 16:34:50 UTC --- It's not the "good" way to copy file to temp location. How would you put the lock on the file is this case. Leaving the file on the remote side with no lock, it can be modified, deleted and so during the edition time. We need a business solution not an awful hack. It works with gvfs people have the smb share mounted with their credential in the .gvfs pseudo filesystem, but when you have document which contain link to other in an absolute path way ( like /data/office/letters ) it breaks the content. One of the solution, would be to offer a quick and proper way to able user to mount the smb share somewhere in their homoe or dedicated directory without the need of any sudo or root account. fusefs ? A dolphin kio helper service menu ? A end not : who thing this is only enhancement ? It's a just one of the essential part for using openSUSE on Work station doing other thing than youtube and googloids no :-) ? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

One could open konqueror, navegate inside a smb share, double click on a document and it opens in OpenOffice. This also worked while saving the docs. In kde4, if I do the same, openoffice silently quits. It show the splash windows and nothing happens after it disapears. The only way I found to fix this is to change the cmdline in "Files associations" from: oocalc %U to oocalc %f This way, kde4 downloads the file and open it locally. However, this is still not a good solution. Is it too complicated to replace openoffice io stuff with kio? Wasn't something similar done in kde3 integration? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can be even worst. Last check I've done, oowriter open the smb://server/share/document.odt, and I can write, do modification, and save it. But the modification and the saves are only done on the /tmp/ copy of the document. I believe this is really bad, as no warnings or errors are shown to the user. This one could believe everything goes well. but in fact no. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Additionally the network can be seen at /Network/Hostname/Share. Can this be a solution? Because I had report similar issues under 626180 and there are other applications (Firefox) that suffer this issue.
