[Bug 207309] New: SLES10 x86_64 host with Qlogic FCP HBA cards freezes after soft reboot on IBM x336 machines
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=207309 Summary: SLES10 x86_64 host with Qlogic FCP HBA cards freezes after soft reboot on IBM x336 machines Product: SUSE LINUX 10.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SLES 10 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: xdl-novell-bugzilla@netapp.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: xdl-novell-bugzilla@netapp.com When Qlogic cards like Qla2342 & Qla2462 are used on IBM x336 hosts with SLES10 x86_64 OS, the host freezes during bootup when the card is detected (even before the kernel is loaded). But whats strange about this is that the host freeze is seen only after a soft reboot alone, and not after a hard reboot. Listing my observations below: Host: SLES10 x86_64 on IBM x336 single Intel CPU machine using 1.10/1.12/1.13 motherboard BIOS. asterix:~ # uname -a Linux asterix 2.6.16.21-0.8-smp #1 SMP Mon Jul 3 18:25:39 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Qlogic cards: Qla2342 with 1.43/1.47 ROM BIOS & 03.03.18 firmware. Qla2462 with 1.04/1.12 ROM BIOS & 4.0.16 firmware. Host freeze with these Qlogic cards seen on: 1) SLES10 x86_64 kernel on the above setup. Host freeze NOT seen on: 1) SLES10 i386 kernel on same setup 2) SLES9/RHEL4 kernels on same setup In all these cases: 1) There were no fiber cables attached to the Qlogic cards on the host. 2) Both the bundled Qlogic 8.01.04-k & the latest 8.01.06 drivers were used on the SLES10 hosts. But the behavior was still the same 3) Topology settings for the Qlogic cards was point to point while the speed negotiation was auto. This does point to IBM x336 machines with SLES10 x86_64 kernel having compatibility issues with Qlogic HBA cards. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
