[Bug 390104] New: (CLI) "yast2-ldap configure" takes long time because it wrongly starts ypbind (NIS)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=390104 Summary: (CLI) "yast2-ldap configure" takes long time because it wrongly starts ypbind (NIS) Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: jsuchome@novell.com ReportedBy: mvidner@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- I installed Beta2 with default KDE4 selection, did no changes to LDAP or NIS. I caled "yast2 ldap configure server=ldap.example.org base=ou=users,dc=example,dc=org tls=no" It took a long time (~4 minutes), because it decided to restart ypbind even though it had not been running. As NIS was unconfigured, it took a while to time out. On the plus side, ypbind is not enabled permanently (chkconfig ypbind: ypbind off) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It took a long time (~4 minutes), because it decided to restart ypbind even though it had not been running. As NIS was unconfigured, it took a while to time out.
Ldap.ycp is checking if ypbind is running before restarting it. These logfiles are not related, probably from wrong machine? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Different but closely related bug:
After invoking the CLI setup, in /etc/ldap.conf "base" is set correctly, but what remains wrong is: nss_base_passwd dc=example,dc=com nss_base_shadow dc=example,dc=com nss_base_group dc=example,dc=com
Therefore "getent passwd" shows only local users. After replacing the above 3 with the base value, it works.
Fixed in yast2-ldap-client-2.16.14. The ypbind issue is not related to yast2-ldap-client and probably not to yast at all. Please investigate and reassign appropriately. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
