https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=693233 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=693233#c0 Summary: sshd complains about non-alphanumeric keys in /etc/environment. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: carlos.e.r@opensuse.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- sshd complains about non-alphanumeric keys in /etc/environment. I see these messages in the warning log. May 9 01:56:22 minas-tirith sshd[4254]: Accepted keyboard-interactive/pam for root from 192.168.1.14 port 33139 ssh2 May 9 01:56:22 minas-tirith sshd[4254]: pam_env(sshd:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias aumix=padsp aumix' in /etc/environment', ignoring May 9 01:56:22 minas-tirith sshd[4254]: pam_env(sshd:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias sox=padsp sox' in /etc/environment', ignoring May 9 01:56:22 minas-tirith sshd[4254]: pam_env(sshd:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias timidity=timidity -Oe' in /etc/environment', ignoring May 9 01:56:22 minas-tirith sshd[4262]: pam_env(sshd:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias aumix=padsp aumix' in /etc/environment', ignoring May 9 01:56:22 minas-tirith sshd[4262]: pam_env(sshd:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias sox=padsp sox' in /etc/environment', ignoring May 9 01:56:22 minas-tirith sshd[4262]: pam_env(sshd:setcred): non-alphanumeric key 'alias timidity=timidity -Oe' in /etc/environment', ignoring The file contains: minas-tirith:~ # cat /etc/environment # # This file is parsed by pam_env module # # Syntax: simple "KEY=VAL" pairs on seperate lines # ALSA_CONFIG_PATH=/etc/alsa-pulse.conf alias aumix=padsp aumix alias sox=padsp sox SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulse alias timidity=timidity -Oe Shhd should keep silent about those, or at least not at warning level. Those configuration lines are correct, sshd should not complain. The warnings are correct. The following lines:
.. Notice that /etc/environment is an openSUSE supplied file. minas-tirith:~ # rpm -qf /etc/environment pam-1.1.3-4.7.1.x86_64 Someone up there must change whatever wrote that file and create the entries in the appropriate file. So please find out who that person is and forward the bugzilla to him. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

On all of my openSUSE 11.4 installations, I have a correct file with the correct content. So it must have been you who changed that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

No, I did not. It must have been written by some package automatic installation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is likely inherited from some old setup-pulseaudio "magic". It moved that stuff to some other file now, see bug 623837.
Thanks! I must be thick today, because I don't see what I should do with the offending entries in /etc/environment. I assume I should remove them, and create them somewhere else, is that it? But I don't know where. I see there is a request for an update for this on 11.3, but I have 11.4 (upgraded from 11.2). Some instructions on what we can do to repair this manually would be nice. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
