[Bug 722858] New: Installation Hangs If USB Thumb Drive Is Present During Initialisation
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722858 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722858#c0 Summary: Installation Hangs If USB Thumb Drive Is Present During Initialisation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Beta 1 Platform: PC OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: malv_star@hotmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=455142) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=455142) Screenshot (apologies for the quality) showing where the install hangs. User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0 When attempting to install openSuSE 12.1 Beta1, I have found that if a USB thumb drive is present during the loading of the installer, installation hangs at "Starting udev", and does not progress into the actual installer portion of openSuSE 12.1 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Insert USB Thumb Drive 2. Boot from CD and choose Installation 3. Wait for kernel to load Actual Results: Install stays at loading screen. Pressing the "escape" key allows you to view the console text. Expected Results: Installation proceeds to load into graphical interface. The drive I am testing with is a 16GB thumb drive, formatted as FAT32. I am not sure if this makes any difference. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The one that Coolo, Christian and myself see runs into a timeout - and after 10mins continues. Since that's the timeout of udev. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So we could remove the maxcpus workaround if we touch linuxrc next time :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I just tried to install it through thumb drive. I first downloaded 32 bit iso then wrote it on 8GB transcend thumb drive using imagewriter. Then booted it and started installation. Everything went file and then system rebooted first time. But then it kept printing error message can not enumerate usb device at port 4. I couldn't finish the whole installation using usb and had to reinstall from scratch using dvd. I think usb device connection shouldn't matter or else it makes installation from usb drives impossible. My smolt hardware profile is below. http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_fc2f6f67-33fc-46c4-b05e-38e4c5576720 Note that this profile is generated after successful installation with dvd so some information about os and software may differ. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is for installation from a DVD with USB thumb drive present. Please create a new bug, since you are installing *from* thumb drive. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
