[Bug 1172951] New: mouse pointer frozen after closing and opening laptop lid
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172951 Bug ID: 1172951 Summary: mouse pointer frozen after closing and opening laptop lid Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.2 Hardware: 64bit OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: 1chip@protonmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 838817 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=838817&action=edit dmesg output Opensuse leap 15.2 on Lenovo thinkpad edge e431. I have 3 devices show up as a mouse. 1-touchscreen 2-touchpad 3-IBM track point button When I close the lid and open it back up the mouse pointer shows up centered in the screen but does not respond with touchpad or track point button but touchscreen still works. This happens every time the lid is closed. Only way I've found to fix it is rebooting. Then mouse works with trackpoint button and touchpad. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

removed that, rebooted and same problem after closing/opening the lid.
Hmm. synaptics driver is gone now. Maybe you also need to remove evdev driver, i.e. xf86-input-evdev package.
Also can't get that first request to work, but dmesg worked.
I don't get this. sudo dmesg -c > /dev/null should really work. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I log in as root, then copy and paste the above and nothing happens.
Haha. That's fine. It empties the dmesg log (try running dmesg; output is empty or much shorter than before). Then do the suspend and resume and run dmesg again, so we get the relevant data of dmesg output. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also, could you try 5.8.x kernel from OBS Kernel:stable repo? If the issue isn't present in the recent upstream, we have a chance to backport the fix. I'm new to linux and not sure how to do that.

m j, a lot of time has passed. Does the issue still exist with Leap 15.3 and the latest kernel there? If yes, could you try the latest kernel in OBS Kernel:stable (see Takashi's instructions in comment 25, only now there is 5.15.12 kernel and not 5.8), please?
I still have the same problem so I quit closing the laptop lid. But now the mouse cursor freezes occasionally without closing the lid. Restarting fixes it. I'm just living with it. I'm using leap 15.3 with the latest updates. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

And OBS Kernel:stable latest kernel? Although I do not expect it to help to be honest. I am afraid there is not much we can do here as Takashi pointed out earlier. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
