[Bug 437329] New: main menu leaks memory like a sieve

Typically after a day or so main-menu is using 1-2G of memory and a significant fraction of the CPU. This debug output generated by moving main-menu sideways and replacing with a wrapper script to call valgrind on the original. I can easily repeat this exercise with extra options if required. It's a pain on single-user machines, which we're getting round by killing main menu once a day. It's a severe pain on multi-user machines where half a dozen of these can run our systems out of memory over a weekend. I'm sure it's better since the thumbnail patch, but it's still there. I hope this helps track down what the problem is.
