https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=757114 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=757114#c0 Summary: [RFC] Banshee and openSUSE 11.4 life cycle Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Banshee AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nmo.marques@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0.3) Gecko/20120305 Firefox/10.0.3 Since I've started the maintenance of the Banshee repositories in OBS a lot of things changed, here's a few that I remember: - Package name change from 'banshee-1' to 'banshee' (a lot of help from vuntz); - Sub-package splitting improved (a lot of help from vuntz); - Repository names changes (to help with maintenance and looking forward to a more please repository tree); - Removed a lot of issues by filtering individual packages build targets, using whenever possible the packages supplied from the distribution; - Removed lots of packages which where were superfluous for banshee builds; - Moved some packages to Mono:Factory to be maintained there; - Updated dependencies for Factory that were provided by Banshee repository (currently 1 left); We have also managed to make openSUSE 12.1 provide all the required dependencies to build Banshee, which means that from 12.1 onwards the Banshee repository only needs 3 packages: - banshee - banshee-community-extensions - taglib-sharp (as it's maintained on Banshee) About 11 packages are currently in Banshee repository for the sole purpose of providing builds for openSUSE 11.4, which will reach it's EOL at 15th September of the year our grace 2012. These packages are: - dbus-sharp - dbus-sharp-glib - gio-sharp - gkeyfile-sharp - gstreamer-sharp - gtk-sharp-beans - gudev-sharp - libgpod - libimobiledevice - mono-addins - notify-sharp plan is the following: - Wipe the previous packages from the Banshee repository; - Wipe openSUSE 11.4 builds from the repository (as 11.4 support is terminated); - Keep only 3 packages on Banshee for the supported builds + banshee + banshee-community-extensions + taglib-sharp (no development upstream for a long time) Anyone has issues on this? If so, since no one is actually putting work on this repositories my suggestion is that those who have problems with this to maintain (copypac ?) a separate branch of Banshee in a repository such as Banshee:EOL. My availability for such task is non-existent, though I can continue to keep an eye for supported platforms on this repository. If none moves to support EOL platforms, this changes will become active on the 16th September 2012 00:01 GMT and non-supported platforms will be wiped. Sounds good.... though I would suspect there needs to be some planning before, therefore optimally this should be done before the EOL happens (my suggestion). If someone needs my help (doubtfully), I'm around, just file a bug report.

Sorry no mailing lists. This is enough from my point of view. Anyone cared when I said this repo would be orphaned? No! So I don't see any reason to spam people for stuff they don't give a damn about.

Repository for 11.4 has been closed and discontinued. Closing bug.
