Rafael: Michael's oopses are in the memory_bm_find_bit()...
Michael: is this repeatable?
Yes in the sense that after hibernating and failing to unhibernate, it fails at the same place. No in the sense that it doesn't always oops while hibernating.
Michael: It pretty clearly says "supported: No". What caused this?
No idea (but it only says "Supported: No" upon hibernation, not during wakeup). How can I find out?
What is dcdbas?

Yes, this generally means "garbage in the image". I'll try to fix this in 2.6.29 so that it fails with error code instead of oopsing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

One of them is that during resume from hibernation the userland can try to pass garbage to the kernel as "hibernation image" and the kernel should not oops in that case. It should rather return an error code and the attached kernel patch ought to address this issue (lightly tested on x86-64). The second issue is that, apparently, the userland _does_ pass garbage to the kernel during resume from hibernation instead of a valid image. Please try to put "compress = n" into /etc/suspend.conf and see if that makes the second problem go away. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hi Rafael, Will this bug stop shipping open SUSE 11.1?
Yes, it will, from what I can tell.
Could you tell us what method we could debug in kmap field?
After some more investigation I don't think it's a kmap_atomic problem any more. Rather than that, it's a problem with hibernation vs the memory mapping layout in the CONFIG_NUMA=y case, which is complicated to put it lightly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The patch has already been submitted and accepted by the x86 maintainers. I expect it to reach the mainline shortly and then it'll be included into -stable.
