If I uncheck autoconfiguration it fails before setting up users, repeatedly. Otherwise it fails right before starting the installation per se. Installing from the Gnome LiveCD works ok, since the drive errs out (read failures) only on DVD's; CD's are read ok. Please try to install in textmode. Enter "textmode=1" in the grub boot prompt. But this may also be not enough memory. You can try to force swap activation by entering "addswap=1" add the bootprompt.
