https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673060 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673060#c0 Summary: Killswitch on Toshiba Portégé R700 affects only WiFi but not bluetooth Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: RC 1 Platform: All OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nice@titanic.nyme.hu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0b10) Gecko/20110121 Firefox/4.0b10 Just like in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=548266 , killswitch only affects WiFi on a totally different machine. The two machines are similar in having software(?) killswitch (Fn+Fx). However, Linux on my older Compaq nc6320 with a dedicated hardware(?) killswitch, was able to enable/disable both WiFi and bluetooth. Does Linux have a problem with handling these "software" kill switches? I was able to turn on bluetooth however by tweaking /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill*/state files: netadmin:~ # ls -l /sys/class/rfkill total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 17 16:39 rfkill0 -> ./../devices/platform/toshiba_acpi/rfkill/rfkill0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 17 16:39 rfkill2 -> ./../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.6/2-1.6:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/rfkill2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 17 16:52 rfkill3 -> ./../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.1/0000:02:00.0/ieee80211/phy0/rfkill3 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. lsusb info about my bluetooth adapter: netadmin:~ # lsusb -v -s 2:3 Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0930:0214 Toshiba Corp. I was able to turn on bluetooth however by tweaking /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill*/state files:
netadmin:~ # ls -l /sys/class/rfkill total 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 17 16:39 rfkill0 -> ../../devices/platform/toshiba_acpi/rfkill/rfkill0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 17 16:39 rfkill2 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.6/2-1.6:1.0/bluetooth/hci0/rfkill2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Feb 17 16:52 rfkill3 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.1/0000:02:00.0/ieee80211/phy0/rfkill3
If the rfkill files work this is not a kernel issue. It is an issue that needs to be fixed in userspace. Moving to Basesystem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

killswitch only affects WiFi
Would it be possible to install the rfkill utility, toggle the wlan button and post the output of "rfkill list all" ? There is always a possibility to turn the device (both wlan and bt) by software or hard-wired button, but it depends on the wiring and bios implementation how the "hard" wlan rfkill button is implemented. The "soft" can be blocked/unblocked by the rfkill utility. The "hard" response to the button only. "rfkill event" shows you what's going on. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
