The two machines are similar in having software(?) killswitch (Fn+Fx). However, Linux on my older Compaq nc6320 with a dedicated hardware(?) killswitch, was able to enable/disable both WiFi and bluetooth. Does Linux have a problem with handling these "software" kill switches?
