[Bug 224177] New: wlan configuration does not work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=224177 Summary: wlan configuration does not work Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: olesen.lars@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I have a wireless nic : Allnet 0271, which is supported by prism54, and yast detects it correctly. I have also downloaded the firmware for the card, and it is loaded. But if I set network (in yast configuration) to use ifup I can see that the config script for the interface is not found. I then made a symlink called for instance ifcfg-eth2 to /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan...... , and then the network script successfully executes the script. I can see (using iwevent) that the nic issues an associate request to the wireless router which is accepted, but dhcp does not work on the wireless interface. If I try to set route and ip manually for the interface I still don't get a connection. The wired ethernet port connects to the same router with no problems. Note: I am not using knetworkmanager because I saw a bug report stating that there was a problem with knetworkmanager and prism54. Also when I did try using knetworkmanager I coule see that the nic never associated eith the router. I am using KDE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=224177 ------- Comment #9 from olesen.lars@gmail.com 2006-12-07 11:10 MST ------- The eth8 issue: I seem to have broken something because the number after "eth" gets incremented each time I boot the machine. I did not want to try to change any of the config files since issuing the bug report so it just keeps incrementing. The command file /var/log/messages said it was gzipped, but gunzipping it still did not produce a readable text file, so I deleted it. There are other files which appear to contain the information which normally is in "messages", for instance "warn" but also the zmd....log files. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I don't think I did anything differently from before but the machine had trouble booting because of some mixup with my combination of IDE hard disk and SATA hard disk and boot order in the BIOS, so I reinstalled Open Suse 10.2 last month. So perhaps some of the updates I have accepted using ZEN, have fixed the issue, or I installed slightly different this time, although I can't imagine what I have done differently which might have fixed this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
