I think the first experience a user has with OpenSuse on a livecd is an important event. Some users will try a different series of livecds before committing to an install. Having a good livecd experience in which common hardware is all setup no fuss is important. If there is no opportunity to explore methods like additional compression to fit more bits on a livecd maybe its time to move to livedvds instead. Now on my system, all hardware is configured automatically just as well as what Ubuntu does.
