[Bug 343726] New: Unable to use radeon and fglrx with HP nc6000 notebook in docking station
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343726 Summary: Unable to use radeon and fglrx with HP nc6000 notebook in docking station Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: HP OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: alexanderebay@web.de QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- After normal installation of openSUSE 10.3 on a HP nc6000 notebook not connected to the docking station the LCD works fine. Immediatly after connecting the notebook to the docking station the attached monitor remains black. Disconnecting and opening the lid the screen looks normal. This has been reported HP internally with LCD and CRT monitors attached to the docking station. Under openSUSE 10.2 the same notebook and docking station behave as designed. Using the radeon or fglrx driver makes the whole thing worse: - the notebook stops working . either pressing the power-button shuts down the notebook normally (just observing the disk-LED and power-LED) . or the power-button needs to be pressed a long time to just turn off the notebook Kernel: ver="2.6.22.12" rel="0.1" with patch rel="0.2" Drivers according to kernel level. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Use sax2 -r -m 0=radeonold for configuration. This is the driver of openSUSE 10.2. Attach /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log afterwards. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343726#c2 --- Comment #2 from Alexander De Bernardi <alexanderebay@web.de> 2007-11-26 14:18:43 MST --- Tried today to use radeonold. modprobe -r radeon modprobe -r fglrx depmod -a modprobe radeonold => driver not found. Next step would have been to create the xorg.conf file. BTW: just using under the above condition "sax2 -r" did hang the notebook again during the test of the proposed configuration. Only hard-shutdown - pressing the power-off button more than five seconds - was accepted. Funny enough the screen looked fine before the test - graphics, mouse, keyboard working as designed. Next step is to find the radeonold driver and test it again. kind regards, Alexander De Bernardi -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please have a look at the xorg.conf. First tests indicate that the radeonold is working with LCD and docking-station. I will do some more tests and let you know the results by end of this week. kind regards, Alexander De Bernardi -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What you are asking for is monitor hotplugging feature. This is only supported with RANDR 1.2 drivers. An experimental one for radeon is on openSUSE 10.3 called "radeonrandr12". See http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/randr12.html for more details. Hope this helps. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
