[Bug 221263] New: Installation warning dialog doesn't list partitions to be formatted
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221263 Summary: Installation warning dialog doesn't list partitions to be formatted Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: cschum@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com The installation warning which comes before the disk gets partitioned and formatted and the packages are installed, there is said that it will destroy data, but not which data. This information is present in the yast screen which is hidden by the dialog. It would be more user friendly to show the list of irreversible actions in the dialog, so the user can make an informed decision whether to proceed or not. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Anyway, nothing that could be changed by me this popup is outside of yast2-storage. I think it belongs to yast2-installation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221263 locilka@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |WORKSFORME ------- Comment #2 from locilka@novell.com 2006-12-05 06:30 MST ------- Well, this is not a warning but a confirmation: --- cut --- Confirm Installation All information required for the base installation is now complete. If you continue now, partitions on your hard disk will be formatted (erasing any existing data in those partitions) according to the installation settings in the previous dialogs. Go back and check the settings if you are unsure. --- cut --- Sorry, but that's -> WORKSFORME. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221263 ------- Comment #3 from cschum@novell.com 2006-12-05 07:59 MST ------- I can't follow this logic. Why does it make a difference if it's a warning or a confirmation? The text of the dialog would be much clearer if it would just say what it does, instead of saying to go back to check what is done. I thought it would be a well-accepted guideline that dialogs should be specific and provide accurate feedback to the user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221263 ------- Comment #4 from locilka@novell.com 2006-12-05 08:13 MST ------- This is a confirmation of the starting installation procedure. All important things are in the previous dialog. This is only something like: "Are you sure you want to delete the selected item?" question. You have to know what you have selected. If you feel that the confirmation dialog should write all this >>again<<, make a feature request. But I don't see any reason for that. Sorry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
