Next time when you open the file you will have all leters in your text like ‘?’. This makes such files totaly unusable. I can not found a way to convert back the question marks to normal text. This way OpenOffice.org from openSuSE 11.2 up to RC 1 is destroying the users data where Save operation is used. Same operation with OpenOffice.org 3.3.3 (OOO310m19 (Build 3420)) by SUN works fine. I believe this bug is top rpiority and show stopper for openSuSE 11.2 (at least for the customers who use Cyrillic text) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open the attached example file 2.Try to make some corrections or do not any thing 3.Save a copy of it 4.Open it again anc open the copy 5.See the difference between the original and saved copy of it Actual Results: All Cyrillc letters get replaced by question marks '?' There must be someting special on your system or user configuration. I even installed all packages suggested for the Bulgarian localization, ran OOo with LANG=bg_BG.UTF-8 and it still worked. Krasimir, could you please provide some more information? 1. List of fonts installed on your system. You might get it by the command: fc-list >fc-list.log 2. yast2 logs. You need to become "root" and compress them using the command: save_y2logs /tmp/y2logs.tgz 3. Does it help to change the font used in the document? For example, you might use "Nimbus Roman No9 L" instead of the "Arial Cyr" 4. First the HDD where erased (by sero filling) and then new partitions have been made and formatted. (partitions /boot and / formatted with ext3, other partitions with ext4) Then we had installed openSuSE 11.2 RC1 from the downloaded openSuSE DVD image. It was done as always we are doing it since past years (excluding ext4 - we give it a try for first time now) We had no such problems with OOo and the openSuSE 11.1 and older versions till recently. More over - when we installed also the SUN version of OOo 3.1.1 on the same openSuSE 11.2 RC 1 the SUN version of OOo worked without any problems. We have changed the installation language to Bulgarian in the process of installing the openSuSE 11.2 RC as always before we did. Then for the 1st PC we choose the following languages from Yast - Software management: Bulgarian, English US, Russian and German For the second we used Bulgarian, English UK, English US We did not change any thing else and use the locale for Bulgarian from settings - country and language plus had set keyboard layouts for BG and US. Mean time we have here a notebook Toshiba with openSuSE 11.1 updated with all packages from the Factory up to yesterday available including OpeOffice.org 3.1.1.1 from Novell. (OpenOffice.org 3.1.1, OOO310m21 (Build 9319) - Build 3.1.1.1 as stated in the Help - about) Strange but this particular OOo 3.1.1.1 installation does not have the reported by me problem. Some people here are on opinion this problem is available only when openSuSE 11.2 RC 1 is installed on a fresh (clean) HDD - when new installation is made. But when a working computer with already installed let say openSuSE 11.1 will be upgraded to openSuSE 11.2 RC1 this problem is missing. Now we found some computers where upgrade installation was made to upgrade from 11.1 to openSuSE 11.2 RC 1 and there this problem is missing. May be some software module is shipped with openSuSE 11.2 and this software module must be the reason for the problems? It looks like it must be some where in the OpenOffice.org from Novell because the SUN version of OOo 3.1.1 installed in the same computer with the same open SuSE 11.2 RC1 works without any problems. Then you may open it with vmware player and play to see what happens. It is as follows zaj5Pee7 There in to the folder Документи (Documents) you will see the file Test_saved_from_this_vmWare_image.xls This is a saved copy of the Initial_file-20091023-1.xls I just save it from the OOo which is installed in this virtual machine. Please have a look do play with it. 2.About the fonts I have made fc-list.log and y2logs for you. Then I try to make a final test with the Microsoft Core Fonts in order to see if it could solve the problem So fonts have been installed and new set of fc-list.log and y2logs has been made. Unfortunately by mistake you have got one file from before this fonts installation and second file from after this fonts installation. Sorry for it. But any way the installation of the fonts did not solve the problem. Microsoft Core Fonts have been available many years ago in *.exe form. We have them available extracted. We use then in our deskrop Linux installations as it is relased by Microsoft as free to use even recently the do not provide them from their site. By the way when you are going to play with this installation please mention the Save As dialogue. There is a place with some additional defect - only check boxes are available without text. When you open it with let say vmplayer it should log you in directly. Please open the OpenOffice.org and found the folder Documents. The only thing you need to do in order to replicate the problem will be to open the file Initial_file-20091023-1.xls and try to save it as XLS file. (may be better to save with different name in order to keep the original untouched) Then please close the file and open the saved file. If I remove ~/.ooo3/user folder, start OopenOffice Writer and put some symbols (į, ų, ė, ū), save file as .doc, reopen it, I see only ? instead of letter :( Package OpenOffice_org-kde4 is installed Then I remove OpenOffice_org-kde4.
