http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=567345 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=567345#c0 Summary: Microphone does not function properly with ALSA 1.0.22 on IDT 92HD81B1C5 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: michael.csj@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.0.276.0 Safari/532.8 The microphone on my HP dm3 laptop (internal and external) doesn't work immediately after bootup. However, if I restart ALSA using "rcalsasound restart", the microphone will start to works and pick up voice perfectly for awhile (around 1 - 5 minutes). After that, it'll stop functioning again and I'll get high wakeup as shown in powertop (such as 99.0% (40673.0) <interrupt> : ohci_hcd:usb3, ohci_hcd:usb4, HDA Intel) whenever I try to access the microphone (for example opening the pulseaudio mixer INPUT tab). Notice that I have updated to the latest alsa 1.0.22. Here are what I have installed. rpm -qa '*alsa*': alsa-plugins-1.0.22-19.1.x86_64 alsa-oss-32bit-1.0.17-27.1.x86_64 alsa-1.0.22-51.1.x86_64 alsa-utils-1.0.21-19.1.x86_64 alsa-docs-1.0.22-51.1.noarch alsa-plugins-pulse-1.0.22-19.1.x86_64 alsa-plugins-pulse-32bit-1.0.22-19.1.x86_64 alsa-driver-kmp-desktop-1.0.22.20091226_2.6.31.5_0.1-1.1.x86_64 alsa-plugins-32bit-1.0.22-19.1.x86_64 alsa-oss-1.0.17-27.1.x86_64 rpm -qa '*pulse*': libpulse0-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 libpulse-browse0-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 pulseaudio-utils-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 pulseaudio-module-zeroconf-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 libpulse-mainloop-glib0-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 pulseaudio-module-x11-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 pulseaudio-module-gconf-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 alsa-plugins-pulse-1.0.22-19.1.x86_64 libpulse0-32bit-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 alsa-plugins-pulse-32bit-1.0.22-19.1.x86_64 pulseaudio-module-bluetooth-0.9.19-2.3.x86_64 rpm -q libasound2: libasound2-1.0.22-51.1.x86_64 In addition I have alsa-driver-kmp-desktop-1.0.22.20091226_2.6.31.5_0.1-1.1.x86_64 installed. I reinstall openSUSE 11.2 but with the KDE4 option, and make sure pulseaudio is not being installed by depedencies, and now the problem is gone. Any thoughts about that? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

For example, try to pass enable_msi=0 option to snd-hda-intel and/or position_fix=1 option. PA is pretty sensitive about the position reporting, and many hardwares are too inaccurate about it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I now can't reproduce this bug on openSUSE 11.2 GNOME Live CD. And below is the output of alsa-info.sh If possible, I really do not wish to reinstall from the DVD just to have the problem tracked.
