[Bug 244515] New: package database is too slow
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244515 Summary: package database is too slow Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Zenworks AssignedTo: zlm-code10-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ensonic@sonicpulse.de QAContact: sarifulla@novell.com This is on an AMD64 3500 (32 bit version). Whenever I start zypper or yast2 sw_single, it updates sources and parses metadata. It would be sufficient to do this once a day and cache the info. I should not spend that long to do a package search:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244515 ------- Comment #1 from ensonic@sonicpulse.de 2007-02-27 10:25 MST ------- some additional info: Those tools under '/usr/lib/zmd/' like 'parse-metadata' and 'update-status' seem to be *really* slow. Either I have some misconfiguration or they use total unoptimal algorithms. I checked their deps and they link to libxml2. Can it be that related to how they process xml? If the systray notierfier report that there are e.g. 2 updates and I open it, it takes several minutes before it shows which updates it mentioned. Shouldn't those be already there? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244515 ------- Comment #2 from bryce1@obviously.com 2007-03-28 12:33 MST ------- parse-metadata takes up to 30 minutes to complete on my 1Ghz Athlon system. It is enough to want to make me learn to uninstall zen & beagle, and rediscover my computer's central processing unit. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=244515 ------- Comment #3 from ensonic@sonicpulse.de 2007-04-10 11:05 MST ------- will there be a fix for zen available or is the only thing left to do this procedure? http://www.linuxquestions.org/reviews/showproduct.php?product=703 It would be really great if a zen-suite developer could at least confirm this and ev. give some tips (if any) to clean this up or workaround this problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
