[Bug 581293] New: Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager 1.5 cannot change P/T-States on Xen Kernel (SLES 11 SP1 Beta 3)
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=581293 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=581293#c0 Summary: Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager 1.5 cannot change P/T-States on Xen Kernel (SLES 11 SP1 Beta 3) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SLES 11 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: jdouglas@novell.com ReportedBy: Bartek.Nowakowski@intel.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=343483) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=343483) autoinst.xml from SLES11 SP1 Beta3 installation User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; InfoPath.2; MS-RTC LM 8) It is a SLES 11 SP1 Beta 3 bug, due to lack of permission I've put it here. If Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager 1.5 needs to lower power consumption of the platform, sends change P/T-State request via HECI to OS. In our test RHEL 5.4 with Xen did limit the power consumption and SLES 11 SP1 Beta3 with Xen did not due to not changing P/T-States. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Perform default SLES 11 SP1 Beta 3 “New Installation” with following changes 2. “Server Base Scenario” was installed in two ways (on two platforms): • “Xen Virtualization Host (Local X11 Not Configured by Default)” and added following packages: o “Gnome Desktop Environment” o “X Windows System” o “C/C++ Compiler and Tools” • “Physical Machine (Also for Fully Virtualized Guests)” and added following packages: o “Virtualization Host (not-embedded)” o “Xen Virtual Miachine Host Server” o “C/C++ Compiler and Tools” 3. After installation we set Proxy and turned off Firewall, then we rebooted 4. Chose from GRUB menu “Xen – SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 – 2.6.32.5-0.1” and booted it 5. Send to Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager 1.5 “Get NM Statistics”, remember “Current Power Reading” in Watts – Power in idle 6. Star load on platform (for example download kernel sources and do “make -jCores_number”) 7. Send to Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager 1.5 “Get NM Statistics”, remember “Current Power Reading” in Watts – Power under load (should be greater than Power in idle) 8. Send to Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager 1.5 “Set NM Policy” with Power limit between Power in idle and Power under load with 6000 [ms] correction time 9. Send to Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager 1.5 “Enable/Disable NM Policy Control” which will enable previous defined policy 10. After 6 seconds send to Intel Intelligent Power Node Manager 1.5 “Get NM Statistics”, remember “Current Power Reading” in Watts – Power under load with power policy (should be lower than Power under load) Actual Results: OS does not change change P/T-States, power consumption is unchanged (after 6 seconds) Expected Results: OS does change change P/T-States, power consumption is lowered (after 6 seconds) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
