[Bug 596842] New: UI: set one buttons order and use it all the time
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=596842 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=596842#c0 Summary: UI: set one buttons order and use it all the time Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 4 Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; U; ru) Presto/2.5.22 Version/10.51 Part 1: Establish one buttons order and use it all the time (I am here referring to installer, but such strict policy should be used in all products). It is either: no/back/cancel -- yes/next/accept or vice versa but not both. Please check entire installer, examples of "clash" -- the main part uses the first scheme, while password checker used the second, the confirmation of the installation also uses the second one. The issue of current random order is the topic of this report. Below is just my suggestion. Part 2 (remark): I opt either for first version, or for dynamic, depending on the language. For example, it is natural to see buttons back next because it is how "time" flows. But maybe for Arabian speakers it would be more natural to see it in RTL order, i.e. next back Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is it using the `ButtonBox in its dialogs? Please pass this bug to the next maintainer for checking the passwords dialog. (The import mount points dialog was fixed for Milestone 5 or 6.) Please explain in detail, best with screenshot, for one example what you think is wrong and refer to the YaST button order convention. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Arvin, have you read the original post? In short: a) I don't mind the order except for one thing -- consistency [Yes] [No] [Abort] [Continue] is plain wrong b) I suggest/prefer order negative->positive, because it is natural for time order -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you do not like that document discuss it on the YaST mailing list. But I guess by now every YaST developer is sick of discussing button orders and all usability experts have left the project. If a dialog disobeys the convention make a bug report. I cannot see what is wrong with buttons in the partitioner. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

At the top there is listed principle "make the order at random". Right? Jesus, either "continuation" button is on the left or on the right. MAKE UP YOUR MIND. And in regards of partitioner -- partitioner is part of installer. So it should use the same scheme. Once again (for the third time) -- I DON'T CARE ABOUT THIS OR THAT SCHEME. PICK UP __ONE__ AND USE IT. ALL THE TIME. Maybe in caps the idea will get to you. Reopening (this report is not about partitioner, it is about installer). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The main screen has such buttons (meaning): [canceling operation] [continuing with operation] the dialog displayed above has such order: [canceling operation] [continuing with operation] You know what it is? -- CONSISTENCY! In 11.3 things get different. The main screen remains the same, but the dialog has now such order: [continuing with operation] [canceling operation] so the screen as whole looks that way <----------+ | * * | +-----------> <--------* *--------> -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
