https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=860679 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=860679#c0 Summary: Nouveau: xrandr HDMI-1 and DVI-D-1 disconnected - External monitor not detected Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: HP OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: terje@nordland-teknikk.no QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=576031) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=576031) /etc/X11/xorg.conf.install User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0 Beyond the built-in WUXGA display, an external WQHD monitor is connected to the HDMI port on the graphical card, alternatively connected to the dual link DVI-D on the hp docking station. The external monitor is not detected and the external monitor ports are reported disconnected using Nouveau and xrandr on openSUSE 13.1 running on a hp8710w mobile workstation equipped with a Nvidia graphical card. The same problem has been the case previously also using 12.x with previous 3.x kernels. In comparision, SLED11 SP3 using the proprietary Nvidia/settings driver running in dualboot with openSUSE 13.1/Nouveau on the same workstation, the external monitor here works with up to 1920x1080 over HDMI and at 2560x1440 resolution over the docking dual link DVI-D. Here follows the query output using openSUSE 13.1/Nouveau/xrandr: # lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A2 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation G92GLM [Quadro FX 3600M] [10de:061c] (rev a2) Subsystem: NVIDIA Corporation Device [10de:0518] Kernel driver in use: nouveau Software versions installed: # uname -a Linux linux-0ufn 3.11.6-4-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Oct 30 18:04:56 UTC 2013 (e6d4a27) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux # zypper se -is nouveau Loading repository data... Hanssen <terje@nordland-teknikk.no> 2014-02-09 19:13:47 UTC --- I've tested also with another external 1920x1080 monitor and got verified the same results: The monitor message tells "No video input" using each of the digital ports, DVI-D (docking) or HDMI (Nvida card). Testing with a basic VGA cable (on the docking or on the Nvidia card) does however work in dual monitor mode and send analog video input to the monitor as verified by the xrandr output here: ~> xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3840 x 1200, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS-1 connected primary 1920x1200+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 367mm x 229mm 1920x1200 60.0*+ 59.9 1920x1080 60.0 1600x1200 59.9 1680x1050 60.0 1400x1050 60.0 1280x1024 59.9 .....snip.............
