https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=753278 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=753278#c0 Summary: A separate /usr is mounted too late in the initrd, causing the system to be unbootable Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: einar@heavensinferno.net QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) KHTML/4.8.1 (like Gecko) Konqueror/4.8 Since the recent updates in Factory, many components in /bin and /sbin, and also /lib and /lib64, are symlinks to the equivalent paths in /usr. However, mounting of /usr in the initrd happens too late, that is some of the components, programs and libraries are needed before it is mounted. The net result is a series of errors, including missing libraries and kernel panics. If everything is on the same partition, there are no issues. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have a separate / and /usr 2. Install latest Factory updates 3. Reboot the system Actual Results: The system does not boot properly (errors include missing libblkid, libmount and liblzo, or errors from udev - No such file or directory - when using blkid) Expected Results: The system boots up normally. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
