before updating to 4.10.1 skype does not detects pulseaudio and uses "system/default"
since 4.10.1 update skype uses "pulseaudio server (local)"

In fact, ekiga should be using gstreamer backend, which will go to the right audio server. Nevertheless: I don't think even using alsa would be an issue; the fact that it crashes is.
