Dhcp discover messages seem to get to the router judging by the blinking lights, but dhcpcd doesn't seem to notice and no IP is assigned. Reading the output of tcpdump I've seen the failed dhcp handshake. In one trial ARP took over after dhcp failed and assigned an address that ifconfig showed.
