[Bug 227359] New: Evolution - Draging a message into a local folder also places a copy in trash folder
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227359 Summary: Evolution - Draging a message into a local folder also places a copy in trash folder Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Evolution AssignedTo: kharish@novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@tpg.com.au QAContact: anagappan@novell.com If you drag a message from your inbox into a local folder it is moved all o.k The problem with dragging a message in this way is that a duplicate of the message is also placed in the TRASH folder. Right click and move does NOT have the same issue. 100% reproduciable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227359 ------- Comment #1 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2006-12-08 19:19 MST ------- Further testing indicates a correction to 1# above. The action of right click and move will ALSO cause a duplicate message to be placed in TRSH FOLDER. This may cause major indexing issues later on and part way explains why you cannot recover messages in trash that have been auto placed there via a move action - either drag or right click move. See separate bug report on recovering of deleted items. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

So what you see in Trash is the deleted copy. BTW, what is your Account type in Evolution ? GroupWise or IMAP or Exchange ? The search for an actual deleted message by the user makes no sense when they are confronted with items they know they have moved and when they find them in the trash folder alarms go off and the user thinks the message was deleted in error rather than moved. A user can make no sense of why their trash folder is enormous. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227359 ------- Comment #5 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2007-01-08 17:40 MST ------- In ref to #1. I do understand the problems we face under Linux X OS where there is no provision to move an object without copying it, the concept of Microsoft OLE is not currently possible and perhaps this is the next challenge for the X OS Windows System. In this particular situation rather than deleting the item that is copied and place it in the Trash folder, can we not just delete the item in the same manner we can delete a record in a database. I understand this would require a great deal in changing the delete code that currently places every deleted records into the trash folder. The long term issue that the current method gets into problems is if the user does not select 'empty trash' on exit the size of trash folder could reach enormous size, particularly for those government/corporate institutions that require a copy of every email message received to be stored for an enormous period of time. In this situation I have seen government/corporate users who have a massive number of local folders for which they file ALL messages and achieve every year - The achieve feature is also missing in Evolution and I requested this enhancement a very long time ago. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
