(See attached screenshot) The error message is wrong, since firefox opens other pdf without problem. It was a local one. Does it happen for you for local or remote ones? (Shouldn't really be a difference.)

Another info I would need is if acroread is your "default" handler in the helper dialog you get or if it is another choice in the list? (Firefox is using different codepaths in these two cases)

Sorry, need to be sure with that. You've set using it always and so it got added to your mimeTypes.rdf (what you can see in the preferences UI)?
