[Bug 848969] New: KDE and Bluetooth (Additional notes for the Release Notes)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=848969 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=848969#c0 Summary: KDE and Bluetooth (Additional notes for the Release Notes) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Release Notes AssignedTo: ke@suse.com ReportedBy: tittiatcoke@gmail.com QAContact: coolo@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/32.0.1687.2 Safari/537.36 SUSE/32.0.1687.2 As discussed with Ludwig, please find below some additional text that should be put in the Release notes for 13.1 Text:---- In openSUSE 13.1, the Bluetooth stack is provided by Bluez 5 (a major, backwards-incompatbile version), a necessary upgrade for GNOME desktop and some other components of the base system. Unfortunately, the KDE workspace only supports Bluez version 4 in its currently-released versions. In an effort to prevent missing functionality, modifications to allow co-installation of Bluez 4 and 5 were attempted, but were unsuccesful. At the same time, upstream developers started updating KDE's Bluetooth stack, Bluedevil, to Bluez 5. Due to this work, a decision was made to move forward with Bluez 5 support in the distribution, hoping that the port would be finished by the time openSUSE 13.1 would be released. As this did not happen in time (it is still a work in progress), there is no Bluetooth support for the KDE workspace in the openSUSE 13.1 release. Therefore, the openSUSE KDE community team took the conscious decision to ship openSUSE 13.1 with an unofficial Bluedevil pacakge providing at least basic functionality for users (such as device pairing, support for bluetooth mice). As it is a work in progress, some features are known not to work, like file transfer. For the moment, bugs should not be filed against Bluetooth support in KDE as the Bluez 5 port of Bluedevil is still ongoing. Upstream has also mentioned that no bug reports on Bluez 5 support will be accepted until the port is fully finished. We are closely tracking the progress of Bluedevil with regards to Bluez5 support and we will provide updates through the normal 13.1 update channel based on the developments upstream. I'd vote to shorten it, but if Ludwig wants the whole story in the release notes, then it's also fine with me. Can we lower the severity? 5.8. KDE and Bluetooth

Is the bluetooth support still incomplete? I'm not able to pair/start input service with my Microsoft bluetooth mouse using KDE. Should I wait for more updates on the bluetooth status or should I file a bug report? thanks, Carlos -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
