I wasn't particularly hopeful as I had tried and failed with a similar approach using the Xen Live CD (they actually mention the i810 module as one of the possible culprits for Xen not starting up X). But thanks for the suggestion anyway. It was worth a try... In response to #19: Jan, Well, the reason why I added a "me too" was that I couldn't find a solution in this bug report. So did the original reported (David Huecking) manage to get it to work?
