[Bug 217353] New: ALSA failing to control sound output in a Fujitsu-Siemens notebook
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=217353 Summary: ALSA failing to control sound output in a Fujitsu- Siemens notebook Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: kbasu@astro.uni-bonn.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Problem occurred after successfully installing SuSE 10.1 (with updates) on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro V3205 notebook: the mixers cannot control the sound output from speakers. In this model sound is controled by the Fn-keys, and the mixer applications (alsamixer or KMix) respond appropriately to my Fn-key action. (I previously used KHotKeys to bind the Fn-key actions to the mixer.) But there is no communication between the mixer and the sound hardware. For example, I started some music and then launched 'alsamixer' (I only have the PCM channel available). I raised and lowered the (displayed) volume level with the arrow-keys, and then turned mute on/off with the 'm' key. The actual speaker output, however, never changed -- always coming at full blast. Here is the output of the command 'hwinfo --sound': 11: PCI 1b.0: 0403 Audio device [Created at pci.300] UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_27d8 Unique ID: u1Nb.geI1yJ7WJQ3 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:1b.0 Hardware Class: sound Model: "Fujitsu Siemens 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x27d8 "82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller" SubVendor: pci 0x1734 "Fujitsu Siemens Computer GmbH" SubDevice: pci 0x10ad Revision: 0x02 Driver: "HDA Intel" Memory Range: 0xdc240000-0xdc243fff (rw,non-prefetchable) IRQ: 66 (632 events) Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d000027D8sv00001734sd000010ADbc04sc03i00" Driver Info #0: Driver Status: snd_hda_intel is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd_hda_intel" Config Status: cfg=yes, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown In my KDE setup the sound system hardware (Audio Device) is selected as 'Autodetect', I tried changing it to ALSA and then use alsamixer, no change.
