[Bug 1034261] New: Kernel panic with 4.10.* kernels and new AMD hardware
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1034261 Bug ID: 1034261 Summary: Kernel panic with 4.10.* kernels and new AMD hardware Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: pilotgi@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.133 Safari/537.36 Build Identifier: I recently upgraded my Tumbleweed machine with a new Ryzen 1700 cpu and AM4 B350 chipset motherboard. My first attempt at booting from the same SSD after the new hardware was installed resulted in a kernel panic. I also installed a new NVMe drive and installed the latest TW snapshot and I also got a kernel panic after the install finished. After multiple attempts, I was able to get the system to boot, but I got a long string of repeated error messages that said this: "A start job is running for flush journal to persistent storage." "Unexpected IRQ trap at vector 07" The "unexpected" message keeps repeating for about 2 minutes until X finally starts. My system seemed to be operating normally until I did some updates and it froze on a random package. It took multiple tries to get my system to boot again without a kernel panic, but when I tried to finish the updates, it froze on a random package again. If I boot into runlevel 3, the "unexpected" message repeats itself indefinitely. I then installed Leap 42.2 with the 4.4.* kernel and didn't get any kernel panics. I'm attaching a screenshot of the kernel panic output. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Just boot Tumbleweed with a 4.10.* kernel 2. 3. Actual Results: Kernel panic almost every time. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
