All my external usb hdds were working in opensuse 11.1 (also with a 2.6.30 kernel). All my ports work right now. I can mount other external usb 2 hdds but I got a problem with one of them. The hdd itself works. It works with another usb 2 case. When I connect this "special" external usb 2 case nothing happens except of the following messages through dmesg [ 433.829547] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 [ 433.944860] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=152d, idProduct=2329 [ 433.944888] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=5 [ 433.944906] usb 1-1: Product: USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge [ 433.944920] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: JMicron [ 433.944933] usb 1-1: SerialNumber: DCA45790440F [ 433.945218] usb 1-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 433.957048] scsi4 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [ 433.957561] usb-storage: device found at 3 [ 433.957563] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [ 434.957947] scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access WDC WD10 EADS-00L5B1 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 CCS [ 434.960585] sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0 [ 434.961011] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] 1953525168 512-byte logical blocks: (1.00 TB/931 GiB) [ 434.961870] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off [ 434.961891] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 34 00 00 00 [ 434.961898] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 434.964098] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 434.964122] sdb: sdb1 [ 434.990679] usb-storage: device scan complete [ 434.992593] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 434.992604] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI disk [ 435.194105] usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 [ 435.308094] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 435.523103] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 435.726113] usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 [ 435.840106] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 436.055145] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 436.258093] usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 [ 436.668090] usb 1-1: device not accepting address 3, error -71 [ 436.770098] usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 [ 437.181060] usb 1-1: device not accepting address 3, error -71 [ 437.181177] usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 3 [ 437.286103] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4 [ 437.400103] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 437.615113] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 437.819027] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5 [ 437.934073] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 438.148104] usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 438.351109] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6 [ 438.760081] usb 1-1: device not accepting address 6, error -71 [ 438.862109] usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7 [ 439.272042] usb 1-1: device not accepting address 7, error -71 [ 439.272077] hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1 [ 439.514103] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 [ 439.627098] usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 439.841086] usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 440.044095] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 [ 440.157101] usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 440.371091] usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71 [ 440.574052] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4 [ 440.984089] usb 3-1: device not accepting address 4, error -71 [ 441.086104] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5 [ 441.495095] usb 3-1: device not accepting address 5, error -71 [ 441.495148] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1 Tell me if you need anything or if I should test something.
