[Bug 624118] New: No sound from line out after installing 11.3
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=624118 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=624118#c0 Summary: No sound from line out after installing 11.3 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: dgolden@golden-consulting.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=377329) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=377329) Output of alsa-info.sh User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.10) Gecko/20100506 SUSE/3.5.10-0.1.2 Firefox/3.5.10 After installing openSUSE 11.3 there is no sound from line out. Also the mixer controls are wrong. This is exactly the same as Bug #601161 that I reported against openSUSE 11.2. The hardware is an HP DC5750 Micro Tower. Using speaker-test, there is no sound from line out. The only sound is from the internal speakers. I am attaching the output from alsa-info.sh. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install openSUSE 11.3 2. Try to use sound 3. Actual Results: No sound from line out. Expected Results: Sound from line out. I have not had a problem with sound until 11.2. All previous versions worked fine. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think that the resolution of that bug is causing all of the problems. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It gives the speaker output as a line-out falsely, thus it confuses the parser. Try the following (at best once after killing all sound stuff): # echo -n 0x11 0x90130110 > /sys/class/sound/hwC0D3/user_pin_configs # echo -n 1 > /sys/class/sound/hwC0D3/reconfig Then adjust the mixer volumes again. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Where did you find the information you are asking me to enter? 2) From what I can determine, the fix to Bug #552154 is what actually broke the ability to use alsa on the HP/Compac DC5750. It cannot use "auto"! 3) By reversing the change to "/usr/src/linux/sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c" sound will again work on this system. 4) This problem was initially reported against openSUSE 11.2 with Bug #601161 that has not been responded to since 2010-05-06. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I copy the comment again: "Try the following (at best once after killing all sound stuff): # echo -n 0x11 0x90130110 > /sys/class/sound/hwC0D3/user_pin_configs # echo -n 1 > /sys/class/sound/hwC0D3/reconfig Then adjust the mixer volumes again." What is so difficult here? It's just two echo commands to run on a terminal. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

After doing the above, I have sound from line out. I no longer have the CD input. BTW, I installed Audacity and it does not hear the microphone. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

(It's a legacy function and isn't used on other OSes any more, too.) Use CDDA instead, or try to pass model=hp-3013 option to get back to the old state. For the mic recording, I guess it's rather the mixer setup issue, as same machines of other people work well. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It already contains the necessary fixes. But, the echo commands do essentially the same thing. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I do have one last question. I noticed that in addition to no CD, there is also no PCM control. You said that the CD was legacy. But is PCM also supposed to be missing?
