[Bug 206247] New: zeroconf doesn't resolve hostnames (mDNSResponder)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206247 Summary: zeroconf doesn't resolve hostnames (mDNSResponder) Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: fidel78@interfree.it QAContact: kde-maintainers@suse.de After installing Suse 10.1, I've tried to create a shared folder using KPF (file public server applet for KDE panel). After do that, a dialog window inform me that the service was published on the local network. In fact, the service is listed in KDE network services, but when I try to access it, the message "Unknown host mypcname.local" appears in Konqueror. I've read bug no. 103155, i haven't any firewall enabled, i've tried with both stock glibc and updated glibc (from suse security updates), but the only way to make it work is to modify /etc/nsswitch.conf in the usual way... Please check this annoying bug (critical for a newbie user - at least for suse 10.2...), in my opinion the bettere way is to modify nsswitch.conf by default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206247 ------- Comment #2 from mls@novell.com 2006-11-14 09:12 MST ------- Does 'ping mypcname.local' work? Usual way means adding nss_mdns? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206247 ------- Comment #3 from fidel78@interfree.it 2006-11-20 00:49 MST ------- My pc name is "mistique.site" (associated on the ip 127.0.0.2 and on the ip assigned by my router), and 'ping mistique.site' works (ping resolves on the loopback interface 127.0.0.2), but zeroconf searches for "mistique.local." (and pinging 'mistique.local.' or 'mistique.local' (without the strange final peer) obviously doesn't work). I've tried changing domain name to 'local' instead of 'site', but with no success. Yes, the usual way is adding 'mdns' to the line 'hosts:' in /etc/nsswitch.conf. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Sometimes (*very* rarely) name resolution works without adding "mdns" in nsswitch.conf, but i have to wait 2-3 minutes to have the name resolution working. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206247 ------- Comment #6 from mls@novell.com 2006-12-18 06:58 MST ------- Seems like the TTL validation of the answer complains that the server sends a package that is not link-local. The standard says that answers must have TTL 255, the package trace I just did had answers with TTL 254. I don't know who's to blame for this, I'll investigate after the xmas holidays... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
