https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1186877 Bug ID: 1186877 Summary: GNOME PackageKit updater (gpk-update-viewer) notifications about updates can be misleading Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.3 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME Assignee: gnome-bugs@suse.de Reporter: sknorr@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- gpk-update-viewer is installed by default on openSUSE GNOME systems and periodically shows notifications about package updates. Unfortunately, it does have a tons of weird UI bugs that not only make the software feel unfinished but also make the desktop itself feel unpolished. One of these issues is that gpk-update-viewer will create notifications periodically about updates being available. However, it will also create these notifications despite the fact that no actual updates are available: You click the notification, the gpk-update-viewer main window opens and it tells you there are no updates. This is not appropriate behavior for a default system component that users periodically have to interact with and which can't be uninstalled without also uninstalling important GNOME patterns. Please update the tool to avoid sending useless notifications. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

gpk-update-viewer is installed by default on openSUSE GNOME systems and periodically shows notifications about package updates.
Does "pkcon get-updates" show any update when gpk-update-viewer doesn't? And btw, please run the following command and provide the output of "gnome-software --verbose"
$ kill `pidof gnome-software` $ gnome-software --verbose

Sorry, I was on vacation & now the repo is gone. Add to that the fact that I don't know how to reproduce the issue in any reliable way. :/ Dunno if there's much I can even do here.
Okay. Personally I think this bug and bug#1190330 are caused by the same issue which has been tracked and fixed in bug #1190330. So I'm closing this atm. Feel free to re-open this if you experience the same issue in the future. Thanks. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 1190330 *** -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
