[Bug 766422] New: Connectvity problems with openSUSE 12.2 beta 1 (dvd)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=766422 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=766422#c0 Summary: Connectvity problems with openSUSE 12.2 beta 1 (dvd) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bgoodall@hotmail.co.uk QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/5.0) After having installed and logged in to openSUSE 12.2 beta 1, I am able to configure the network setup successfully using both ifup and networkmanager but opening firefox reveals that connectivity is broken. This was with a wired connection. On further investigation I am able to ping locally and across the network to DNS servers without problem. So it looks to me as though local DNS resolution/caching is broken. Repeat, I tried this with both ifup and networkmanager and both were able to connect but DNS resolution fails. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Update: added couple of lines to resolv.conf and DNS is up and working. Connectivity restored!
Problem still remains though. Both Yast and NetworkManager are not inserting the DNS server settings from the gui into the file /etc/resolv.conf. So if I configure the network settings in Yast to use ifup connection or if I configure NetworkManager on the taskbar, neither DNS settings find their way into /etc/resolv.conf.
So it's the DNS issue, first we should check if it get from DHCP Server, then check if it was wrote into the /etc/resolv.conf. $ kill -9 `pgrep NetworkMananger` $ rm /etc/resolv.conf $ NetworkManager --no-daemon After connect successfully you could view some infomation look like 'address 147.2.207.22' and 'nameserver 8.8.8.8', could you look the 'nameserver' keyword? If it's ok, we get the DNS from the DHCP server. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Which service is responsible for DNS resolving? Which can I check is running?
It should be provided by the kernel's API, I thought you don't need check it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

My setup is not using DHCP, static IP entered via the gui. Have to enter the DNS servers into /etc/resolv.conf manually, entering them via the gui doesn't seem to work. Thinking I just did a bad install, I tried a complete reinstall of the Beta 1 DVD and again I found myself having to go into /etc/resolv.conf and manually enter the DNS parameters. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
