[Bug 878729] New: running xmtr as normal user fails with "mtr: unable to get raw sockets."
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=878729 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=878729#c0 Summary: running xmtr as normal user fails with "mtr: unable to get raw sockets." Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: frank.h.ellenberger@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 If you try to run xmtr as a normal user from the start menu, it fails silently. If you try it from a terminal, it fails with "mtr: unable to get raw sockets." So it seems to have not enough rights - mtr has owner root:dialout. The path of mtr is /usr/sbin, that of xmtr is user/bin shouldn't it be sbin, too? /usr/share/applications/xmtr has "Exec=xmtr". Perhaps it should be something like "/usr/bin/xdg-su -c /[s]bin/xmtr" I don't know, if it should be fixed by the maintainer or upstream. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: If you run it as root, it works fine. If you try to run it as normal user, it fails - see above. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
