[Bug 727857] New: KDE plasmoid NetworkManager does not show authorization screen
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727857 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=727857#c0 Summary: KDE plasmoid NetworkManager does not show authorization screen Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 At times, the KDE plasmoid NetworkManager applet will show the key icon and list the state of the interface as "Waiting for Authorization"; however, no screen to enter the root password is shown. As a result, there is no way to get that wireless device to work. At other times, it works as expected. Unfortunately, I have not discovered what event(s) trigger the failure. If so, the bug is that the PolicyKit request does not include the window id of the applet, so KWin applies its "focus stealing prevention" logic to this apparently ownerless dialog as it appears. Otherwise the source we are using is in KDE:Distro:Stable NetworkManager-kde4 and the upstream sources are at projects.kde.org, extragear/base, branch nm09. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If it could be hidden with nothing in that list, then "perhaps". In my case it's that the policykit dialog is always hiding below all my other windows, so NetworkManager ends up with a time-out kind of error not having been able to get a response from policykit behind the scenes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Installed opensuse 12.1 today, ended up going to Network Manager a number of times for other reasons, password box opened in the background, took me a bit of time to realize it was there. Would be much better if password box was modal on top of the Network Manager. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please don't mix "no dialogue" with "dialogue in the background". This bug seems to be about "no dialogue". Regarding "dialogue in background" you can change KDE's "prevent pop-ups" setting and maybe file a bug upstream that any passowrd dialogue should not be put in the background. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Both times were while traveling (to the same place). I have not seen this problem at all on my home network. Here's what is going on at the network where I had the problem: 1: The network is badly setup. There seem to be two different devices on the network that use 192.168.1.1 as their IP address. They are probably two different routers, only one of which works. Connecting with Windows, I see the router that works. Connecting with linux, I first see the router that doesn't work, but after a few minutes it switches over to seeing the router that works. I have my NetworkManager connection set as a system connection, and to auto-connect. Most of the time this works. However, if I have first booted Windows, and then boot to 12.1, I get the "waiting for authorization" problem. This seems to be because Windows doesn't disconnect from the WiFi network on shutdown, so the attempted connect from 12.1 is seen by the AP as a refresh of an existing connection. Note that at home, on a properly configured network, I do not have the same problem when first booting Windows, then 12.1. If the problem only occurs with badly configured networks, then I'm not sure that it should really be considered a bug. However, what I have seen may be different from what others see. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I had it for a while, with openSUSE 12.1, 12.2, and kde 4.8, 4.9. Sometimes, my kde network manager is waiting for authorization, and except logging off-on, there is nothing I can do. 1. It works (successfull connection), if I: a. turn on computer with wifi on, log in, write the password for kdewallet after kde daemon ask for it. I need to be very swift and ignore other applications asking for the password (chrome, kmail...) 2. Works sometimes, if I: a. turn on computer with wifi off, log in, write the password for kde wallet if asked by kmail, etc... Turn on wifi, kde daemon asks for password for kdewalled, write password, connects... b. suspend my laptop to hdd after doing 1.a. . After I turn the computer back on, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. If it does work, it connects without any intervention from me. if it doesn't, it is waiting for authorization indefinitely 3. Doesn't work, if I: a. I turn computer on with wifi on, log in, and go get coffee. After I come back and put in the password for kdewallet, it will wait for authorisation indefinitely, even if I turn wifi off/on, put in password, etc. Log out and in resolves the issue, but have to do 1.a. again b. Put in the password, if some other application asks for it, before I put it in for kde daemon -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
