Using VGA output is ok, but xorg X Server reports an errors when I try to use DVI-I output with DVI-VGA adapter on the same monitor. Windows XP SP3 and Ubuntu 8.10 LiveCD works correctly with both outputs. The same occurs with nVidia 8500GT. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Connect a monitor to DVI output with DVI-VGA adater 2. 3. You added the "Enable" to the wrong monitor section. It must be the "Monitor[0]" section, not the "EXT" monitor section. Err - we're talking about a DVI/VGA adapter, aren't we? So there is no digital output involved. Also, the monitor should just be detected (TM). Can you please run rhd_conntest, once for no monitor connected, and once per one(!) monitor connected (you probably have to type in the command, then disconnect the viewing monitor, and press return blindly)? But a ribbon cable is used to connect VGA output with plate and DVI output placed directly on the plate. There is some kind of interference with other periphery I think. No, you should remove the Monitor "Monitor[0]" in the Screen section. The Option "Enable" "true" should remain for now. BTW - no need to conntest with or without adapter removed - either connect the monitor to the card with the adapter, or remove every connection from the card. Also, device 2:0.1 is a pseudo device on ATI cards, no need to test that. Additionally, missing conntest output for VGA attached. I just noted from the logs that your card is another one with HPD pins swapped. I'll add a fix to radeonhd. Until then you should add Option "HPD" "swap" to the Device section in xorg.conf. Apparently HPD is not working correctly on this card - there is HPD0 active even without any connection. Please test Option "HPD" "off" If this works, please add the output of rhd_conntest with *nothing* attached to the card at all (no monitors, no adapters). You'll have to type the command first, then detach your monitor, press RETURN blindly, and reattach the monitor after a few seconds.
