https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=382596 Summary: Dell Precision 450 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller does not work Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: jschmidt@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Novell Technical Services Services Priority: 250 Previously, the 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller, configured in Yast and using the snd-intel8x0 driver worked until (presumably) an update killed it. Now deleting, reconfiguring or rebooting does not produce sound through the card. According to Yast it is configured, but the sound test does not produce any sound. #hwinfo --sound produces the following: 22: PCI 1f.5: 0401 Multimedia audio controller [Created at pci.301] UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_24c5 Unique ID: W60f.d+CcW+EDYeB SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.5 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:1f.5 Hardware Class: sound Model: "Dell 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x24c5 "82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller" SubVendor: pci 0x1028 "Dell" SubDevice: pci 0x012d Revision: 0x01 Driver: "Intel ICH" Driver Modules: "snd_intel8x0" I/O Ports: 0xc800-0xc8ff (rw) I/O Ports: 0xcc40-0xcc7f (rw) Memory Range: 0xffa20400-0xffa205ff (rw,non-prefetchable) Memory Range: 0xffa20000-0xffa200ff (rw,non-prefetchable) IRQ: 20 (7029 events) Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d000024C5sv00001028sd0000012Dbc04sc01i00" Driver Info #0: Driver Status: snd_intel8x0 is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd_intel8x0" Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown This is when the sound card is configured within Yast. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The possibly remaining problem is the mixer setting. Try to run once "set_default_volume -f". If this still doesn't work, attach the generated file via "alsactl -f somefile store". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In other words, is there a fix upstream that we can port to 10.3, or how can I update to openSuSE 11.0 without reinstalling the system? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Alternatively, you can try alsa-driver-kmp package on openSUSE BS multimedia:audio repo. So you should be able to find the matching kernel package there... BTW, alsa-driver-kmp wasn't built for the recent versions. That's why it has an old date like 20080502.
