[Bug 713335] New: Yast2 hangs up after partinioning and formatting on RAID5
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713335 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713335#c0 Summary: Yast2 hangs up after partinioning and formatting on RAID5 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: arakora.hoguanebu@t-online.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=446801) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=446801) installation log until hang up of Yast2 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0; MATM) Inorder to solve Bug #706411 from 2011-07-18 I did as recommended and restarted Yast2 several times until every partition on the well recognized RAID5 was partitioned and formatted. After that, Yast2 rebooted and hung up. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Apply RAID5 on mainboard ASUS P7P55D-E with Intel Corei7 2. Start Yast2 from installation-CD of openSuSE 11.4 3. enter partitions as described in details of bug #706411 (see attachment there: log file) 4. restart Yast2 several times until every partition was formatted 5. then Yast reboots ands hangs up Actual Results: installation failure. unable to install openSuSe 11.4 on this RAID5 Expected Results: I expect an installation which runs through to the end and gives a usable openSuSE 11.4 see bug #706411 from 2011-07-18: the solution was practicable but headed into the next failure of the installation. see attached log file for details. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is there any error message, a black or green screen? Also complete YaST logs saved with save_y2logs as described in the wiki could be helpful. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the partitioning side the installation seems ok. For some reason you do not format the partitions for / and /boot. So old data could lead to trouble there.
But I cannot see why the system does not boot (which is the problem AFAIS). Assigning to bootloader. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

A. Butz <arakora.hoguanebu@t-online.de> 2011-10-16 10:22:17 UTC --- It seems just like the file systems on the raid5 partitions are not recognized correctly while booting. The system stops with asking for a repair. Where can I find information about logging the boot process in order to provide you with that additional data? Maybe you could give me a hint how to do so? A. Butz <arakora.hoguanebu@t-online.de> 2011-10-31 19:38:28 UTC --- I just found out, that for my special situation a driver for the Intel matrix raid controller is needed, which is only provided for windows, not for linux. So I will try to install on a software raid and see what happens.
