[Bug 280337] New: ipw3945d --quiet doesn't run.....
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=280337 Summary: ipw3945d --quiet doesn't run..... Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: roeland@linux-it.nl QAContact: qa@suse.de this might be a diplicate of other bugs but none of them seems to have resulted in a final fix. Hardware: Acer 5684WLMIb using the intel IPW3945 wireless interface. I am using ifup. NetworkManager doesn't seem to work at all for me but that may be due to this bug. eth0 is the GBit interface; eth1 is the wireless interface. I noticed on two similar installed (same) laptops that the wireless part doesn't work. Debugging, I found out that modprobe -r ipw3945; modprobe ipw345 helps iwconfig, ifconfig and ifup to find the interface and then, manual configuration of the wireless parameters will end up in a working wireless connection. started looking at the bugzila stuff and found that others also found the reloading of the interface works. Further looking at it, I found that what doesn't get loaded is the ipw3945d --quiet; I tested it by executing /lib/udev/ipw3945d.sh script and yes, wireless works (after again manually eeding the parameters). So, for whatever reason, the script doesn't get executed, causing ipw3945d not to load. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Do you have /var on a separate partition by chance? And if yes, could you check whether setting TIMEOUT to 60 in /lib/udev/ipw3945d.sh helps? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=280337 ------- Comment #3 from roeland@linux-it.nl 2007-06-12 04:11 MST ------- add info: The initial installation (test) of the laptop didn't have LVM active and I recall that wireless worked just fine. Now that I have LVM in use, it doesn't seem to work. /var is on /dev/mapper/system-var. To get back on your sugegstion: I have changed the timeout from 10 to 60 seconds but still no dice. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
