[Bug 266733] New: Cannot install 10.3-alpha3 on Toshiba Satellite A100
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=266733 Summary: Cannot install 10.3-alpha3 on Toshiba Satellite A100 Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: felix@derklecks.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com The installation failed the sixth time on me now. Therefore I give up. 10.2 is running without a glitch on that machine. I have checked the MD5SUM of every CD. My installation attemps: a) Doing the standard installation the installation died 4 times during the second CD. It jumps back to the blue ncurses interface and tells me an error occurred. b) One time the error happened on the 3rd CD but I do not think I did anything different. c) My last try was to install with safe settings. It failed on the third CD. After a) and b) I was not able to change to any text consoles. Therefore I could not look at CTRL-ALT-F3/4 or elsewhere to see obvious problems. With c) I was able to change the console. On the third I could see: install program exit code is 0 sync... ok cannot open file de-latin1-nodeadkeys.map.gz.map setfont linuxrc-16.psfu killing klogd(2019) killing syslogd.bin(2014) killing bash(1952) killing bash(1949) killing bash(1946) /download/image0 removed I guess c) might be a different problem ... ;) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=266733 ------- Comment #1 from bugzilla.novell@friederikealthen.de 2007-04-20 16:08 MST ------- after doing an install with ACPI disabled I was able to change the consoles again. ;) YaST failed within two seconds and I did not pay enough attention but there was a dialog with progress bar labeled "initializing" something ;) Then it said "installation wird abgeschlossen" (installation is finishing). One strange thing I found out is the last line of /var/log/YaST2/y2log it is: 2007-04-20 23:33:31 S1_1_libmikmod-3.1.11-45.i586.rpm installed ok Where does the "S1_1_" come from?? -- Is the error message important? Maybe I could setup a camcorder to capture the message. ;) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Where does the "S1_1_" come from??
It means (Source #1, media #1). The package was copied to some disk cache to avoid asking for this media again later. When doing so, the filename is prefixed with source and media number. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 274357 *** -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
