Now giving that you prob is one, then your prior is much better than mine. But
bare in mind that penicillin was found because Flemming was mess'n around in
the lab and Mullis invented the PCR while looking apparently at the ripoff ring
closure of a coke can. So we all should cherish more bullshitting as it gives
at time good results (provided one is genius enough to understand its very
present). That said and with all the methodological limitations of the
scientific method:
here you have the yast2log, I will then do one thing. I will try a full install
of leap on a (still vergine) disk on the very same machine with the very same
hardware. Chances are good that with the same setup it may give the same
problem. I will before setting up the printer set the cups to debug mode.
Goes by itself that this takes some time, but I am confident for Monday or so.
In the meanwhile:
Printer: Lexmark C543 laser printer. Attached to USB of the mainboard
controller (no legacy card). Recognition immediate in cups as:
Lexmark Lexmark C543.
It is a known problem that this printer does not appear in the drivers as they
expect Lexmark C543 and not Lexmark Lexmark C543. BUT if you press show Lexmark
or show other driver it does come up. As well as usually taking out the fist
Lexmark it also shows the driver. In our problem no driver was visible (as you
statet this is known to you).
The driver: openprinting Lexmark C543 Foomatic postscript
Stupid question: could this be udev related?
I detached and reattached the printer from the usb. I then installed the
packages. If this plugin / out did trigger a new recognition, this would then
be taken over once cups is restarted after the install of packages?
