[Bug 1173907] New: Scan for wireless networks fails in Yast
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1173907 Bug ID: 1173907 Summary: Scan for wireless networks fails in Yast Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.2 Hardware: aarch64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: moritzrakow@web.de QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Steps to reproduce: `sudo yast2 lan`, select a WLAN card -> Edit -> Scan Network Observed behaviour: A window with "Scanning networks", "obtaining ESSIDs" shows up, but closes again before any networks show up. Expected behaviour: A list with the wireless networks shows up. Comments: The WLAN card is already connected to a network while I'm trying to scan. There are SSIDs nearby that include spaces. I also tried entering an SSID with a space, but at least in text mode, yast doesn't let me enter spaces. SSIDs with spaces are that not uncommon (e.g. "John's iPhone"). Logs attached. On the last line of y2log, it lists all the SSIDs it found. I have redacted the actual network names (replacing characters with X or numbers) manually, because it listed people's real networks nearby. Trying to enter a space into the SSID field is not possible, and produces no log output. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1173907 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1173907#c3 --- Comment #3 from Moritz Rakow <moritzrakow@web.de> --- Actually, I experimented a bit and found out how to open the SSID list! Pressing down arrow reveals it. So I guess the scan works just fine, but the UI could be made more obvious for dumb users like me. The little window that pops up after pressing scan only says "Obtaining essid list", than closes. Whether this succeeded or failed is not visible in the UI until down-arrow is pressed while the SSID field is focussed. SSIDs, including network names with spaces in them, can be selected. However, manually entering an SSID with spaces is not possible. Entering spaces in the password/PSK field works fine. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
