[Bug 335501] New: Erratic behaviour of wireless-configuration
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=335501 Summary: Erratic behaviour of wireless-configuration Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=179580) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=179580) fix erratic behaviour with wep-key assignment If one configures a wireless interface first to "WEP" and then to "open" again, the WEP key is still assigned to the interface as long as there is one corresponding entry in /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-XXX. Therefore the operation without "WEP" does not work. The attached patch fixes this behaviour, it ensures that this assignment only happens if the mode is not set to "open". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You can still use WEP encryption, so it's perfectly legal to use a WEP key with open authentication. If you do not want WEP, then set no key. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If I choose "Keine Verschlüsselung", the WEP key is greyed out but still transferred. I cannot imagine that you tell me that "Keine Verschlüsselung" means encryption can be used though? If so, this should be communicated to the user. This is not understandable at all (IMHO). "Keine Verschlüsselung" differs from "no authentification". "Keine Verschlüsselung" means "no encryption". -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I was not aware of this "no encryption" item in the combo-box, must have sneaked in. It is a YaST bug then, as there was no item "no encryption" for WIRELESS_AUTH_MODE specified. It is even wrong terminology-wise, as encryption and authentication are two different things. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
