[Bug 367784] New: incorrect handling of partitions for perl-Bootloader ( perl-Bootloader-0.4.19-2.1) when using Adaptec HostRaid ( found in IBM x346 xServer)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=367784 Summary: incorrect handling of partitions for perl-Bootloader (perl-Bootloader-0.4.19-2.1) when using Adaptec HostRaid (found in IBM x346 xServer) Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: diego.ercolani@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Created an attachment (id=199170) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=199170) Appendix with configuration details ******** Context ******* I've got a Type 8840-EAY xSeries server from IBM with SCSI HostRaid controller like Classic Serverraid controller, is possible to make RAID Arrays handled directly by the controller. I made a single ARRAY (mirror of two disk sda and sdb) named "ARRAYA". As you can see in paragraphs at the end of this document, linux uses aic79xx.ko module to handle this device. Linux handles this device creating a virtual disk /dev/dm-? or /dev/mapper/asr-ARRAYA-part? as you see in /proc/partitions but from the system is possible (but I don't use) to look (and write on?) single disk sda or sdb. **** The issue **** When you update the kernel with online-update, after installing new kernel, rpm exec (I think) first mkinitrd script to create a new initial ramdisk and then a script that is part of perl-Bootloader package (/usr/lib/bootloader/bootloader_entry). This script should modify /boot/grub/menu.lst to make grub boot the new kernel. As you see in two copies at the end of this report, the automodified menu.lst is not functional for grub as root is set to (/dev/mapper/asr_ARRAYA_part3,2). Every time I upgrade the kernel I have to edit menu.lst and set root to (hd0,3) or (hd1,3), without this grub can't load kernel and initrd image. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
