[Bug 227420] New: Sound blaster Audigy LS - Recognized by YaST, not by volume manager
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227420 Summary: Sound blaster Audigy LS - Recognized by YaST, not by volume manager Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: fcalise@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de During installation of 10.2 Final, the install recognizes my PCI card, the Sound Blaster Audigy LS. I can go into the volume settings and hit the "test" button and I hear the sound in my headphones in everything. I was also able to do this in YaST hardware > sound after the installation was complete. However I can not select this device in the volume mananger in either gnome or kde. It used to work fine in 10.1. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

PCI card. There are some error messages I get when I try to test the sound: 1. Clicking the volume applet in the GNOME panel gets this message: "No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found." 2. SLAB->Control Center->r->GStreamer Profile "test" gets this message: "Autodetect: Could not open resource for writing." 3. SLAB->Control Center->Sound "test" gets this message: "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open resource for writing." The sound card is configured under YaST as soundcard 0. There is an onboard soundcard for my ASUS A8V motherboard, but I have it disabled in the BIOS (it is unconfigured in YaST). I have all the available GStreamer plugins installed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227420 ------- Comment #2 from smaug42@yahoo.com 2006-12-10 09:27 MST ------- I'm also experiencing the exact same issue. I've installed the 32-bit version (from the final release of the 10.2 DVD ISO) and installed both KDE and Gnome. The Soundblaster Live 24 sound card I have is correctly identified by YAST, and testing with YAST produces sound. KDE and Gnome both cannot use the sound card though - they both say that there are no audio devices found. But... as soon as I plug in my Logitech USB headset, it's immediately found and sound is sent to the USB headset from all applications in KDE/Gnome. The Soundblaster is still not picked up by KDE/Gnome. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

After configuring Creative SB Audigy LS soundcard, I'm able to test the sound volume in YaST in my Creative 3-way speakers. However, there is confusing enough no volume set at all after the soundcard configuration. This is especially confusing for new users that easily will think the sound doesn't work. My suggestion is therefore to do as i.e on Ubuntu (I think), that is to set a default 50% volum level during the Audigy LS initial configuration. Another limit I've experienced is that only the Analog Front volum level looks to work, I don't know why. So to the primary bug. After the soundcard configuration, the speaker volum control icon on the Gnome panel, get a red labeled x. Trying to click on it, the error message tells (translated): "The volum controll didn't find any elements and/or devices to control. This means that you have not the right GStreamer-plugins installed or that you have not configured a soundcard." This fault isn't on 10.1 on the same hardware. To verify the Gstreamer packages installed default on 10.2: rpm -qa *gstreamer* gstreamer010-plugins-base-oil-0.10.10-8 gstreamer010-plugins-base-visual-0.10.10-8 gstreamer010-plugins-good-0.10.4-8 kaffeine-gstreamer-0.8.2-35 gstreamer010-0.10.10-8 gstreamer010-plugins-base-0.10.10-8 My current 10.1 installation where the sound speaker I have the same problem here on 10.2 i386. I also deleted on-board sound (Intel), something I've had to do with every distribution to date. And of course sound had to be unmuted in Kmix (Analog Front), and switches turned off in Kmix. As additional information, in an earlier installation of 10.2, Kmix was broken (almost no controls showing) when the Creative Audio driver was made the default, and amaroK didn't work. In the current installation, with the audio group setting, Kmix displays and works as it should and amaroK works fine. wataru -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Yast shows card is working ok, in fact it is. In sound volume in YAST there are Analog Front Analog Rear Analog Center/LFE Analog Side SPDIF Front SPDIF Rear SPDIF Center/LFE SPDIF Unknown The problem for me is that Master volume in previous SuSE is for channels Analog Front & Analog Center/LFE In 10.2 it is set for IEE Front. I just increased the volume for analog front, hit test and I could hear sound! https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227420 ------- Comment #12 from tiwai@novell.com 2007-02-08 06:39 MST ------- Sorry, it's a typo of "getfacl". Run getfacl /dev/snd/controlC0, for example. But judging from ls output, your devices are not correctly set up (except for seq and timer). That's the reason why it didn't work. It looks like a problem of HAL and driver, as the driver doesn't set the device pointer on sysfs. So, obviously it's an upstream bug specific to ca0106 driver. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
