[Bug 429079] New: Installation doesn't show UTC/localtime correct
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=429079 Summary: Installation doesn't show UTC/localtime correct Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 1 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: kssingvo@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Development My system is running in UTC time. During installation I was asked to choose between UTC and localtime. I'd chosen "localtime" as switching selection button to "UTC" showed me 2 hours difference to current time, whereas "localtime" was correct time. During installation I noticed that the time of the system is 2 hours ahead. The UTC selection is the correct choice, but displayed wrong. I assume that this issue is the result that now a NTP search (and configuration?) is done in a step before. So the time is always displayed in localtime. But the Hardware clock is still running in UTC. Summary: The installer shows wrong time during selecting of timezone. A chose of UTC and localtime is always wrong, if system is running with UTC, because NTP configured this wrong. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

1. Yes and no. Yes, the time is shown correct, if I don't do anything. Which means YaST setting shows: set to localtime.
I could hardly believe that; the logfiles attached in comment 2 say that YaST is proposing UTC.
2. openSUSE11.0 showed 2 hours ahead, when the (default) setting is set to "localtime". Using "UTC" showed the correct values.
YaST should not propose you have local time by default. Only if you have windows partition, Mac or PPC32. Is any of these true? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, I think that after calling ntpdate during installation ("automatic NTP configuration") there should be a synchronization of adapted system time to hardware clock.
Done in 2.17.14 (hopefully will be in beta2) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I am on German time but have a United Kingdom keyboard. The installer assumes I am in the UK, and because I have a vfat partition, disables 'Hardware Clock Set To UTC'. However, I do have UTC in the hwclock. >From these defaults 1) Time and Date (with NTP) is given as 09:41, 1 hour before my local wall time 10:41 2) I change timezone to Germany. Time does not change! 3) I check Hardware Clock Set To UTC. Time jumps to 11:41. I have to manually adjust the clock to 10:41. I think that changing the timezone should change the shown time. Is this the same bug? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But I fear my hwclock is now set to localtime and not UTC.
So from which situation is the log? I need a log from a situation with a reported behavior...(In reply to comment #16 from Klaus Singvogel) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
