[Bug 444434] New: seahorse does not load my ssh key
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444434 Summary: seahorse does not load my ssh key Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ajorgensen@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- seahorse-agent is running but when I try to log into a site that needs my key it tells me that the agent admits that it cannot sign (or something like that, I will add the exact error next time I log in). If I run ssh-add then I can type in my passphrase and proceed as normal. In 11.0 my passphrase would get stored in my gnome-keyring so that I was never prompted for it. On first attempt to connect my key would get loaded into the agent. Also, probably related, I don't get the seahorse askpass dialog but the old X dialog or the cli dialog. Running /usr/lib64/seahorse/seahorse-ssh-askpass directly fails. x11-ssh-askpass does work when run manually. Running strace on seahorse-ssh-askpass shows me that it crashes, tries to run bug-buddy, and fails doing that for some reason. I'm gonna guess the askpass failure is the cause of my problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, it looks like that's it. Does that also explain why my keyring isn't working?
Yes.
What's the end result going to be? Is seahorse going to be my agent (yes please) or is gnome-keyring (no thanks)?
seahorse is the gpg agent, the keyring is the ssh agent. Everything will go in the keyring daemon at one point. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ah, this is okay with me as long as the user experience is at least as good. A gnomish askpass that holds keyboard focus so that I don't type my passphrase into IRC and the option to store the passphrase in the keyring. That's all I ask. Thanks! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Vincent: perhaps you used an ssh key without a passphrase?
Nope, I had a password.
Is there a way I can disable the g-k agent and try the seahorse one again? For the 11.1 / SLE11 release I would rather have a working agent than a new agent.
There's no seahorse agent anymore for ssh. It just does gpg now. Ok, a few other questions: + 32 bits or 64 bits? + is Holger the only one having issues with the keyring in general or do others see this too (see comment #10)? + do you log in via gdm? + do you log in with password or with fingerprint? + can you make sure that the last two lines in /etc/pam.d/gdm are: auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so session optional pam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start + does any other /etc/pam.d contain pam_gnome_keyring.so lines? + output of "ls -l $SSH_AUTH_SOCK" + how many gnome-keyring-daemon processes do you have? I know, this sounds like random questions, but I'm trying to see what's going on with the keyring. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

+ 32 bits or 64 bits?
64
+ is Holger the only one having issues with the keyring in general or do others see this too (see comment #10)?
I am having keyring issues at the moment but I had previously installed a fixed gcrypt and still had this particular issue.
+ do you log in via gdm?
Yes
+ do you log in with password or with fingerprint?
Password
+ can you make sure that the last two lines in /etc/pam.d/gdm are: auth optional pam_gnome_keyring.so session optional pam_gnome_keyring.so auto_start
Yup that's in place.
+ does any other /etc/pam.d contain pam_gnome_keyring.so lines?
Nope.
+ output of "ls -l $SSH_AUTH_SOCK"
srwxr-xr-x 1 ajorg users 0 2008-11-24 11:50 /tmp/keyring-Axc54d/ssh
+ how many gnome-keyring-daemon processes do you have?
Just one. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
