[Bug 739086] New: CIFS mounts not displaying properly on Gnome desktop or within "Computer" icon
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=739086 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=739086#c0 Summary: CIFS mounts not displaying properly on Gnome desktop or within "Computer" icon Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: briandoe1@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Brian Doe <briandoe1@gmail.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Severity|Normal |Major User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/16.0.912.63 Safari/535.7 I have a CIFS network share configured in /etc/fstab. I recently had to reinstall OpenSUSE 12.1 because I had to factory-restore my laptop's hard drive. Original installation was from OpenSUSE 12.1 RC1 Gnome Live CD that had been zypper dup'd to current version. Prior to this reinstall, CIFS mounts worked fine. However, upon reinstalling from new DVD burned from ISO (currently available as of December 30, 2011), CIFS mounts would no longer automount from fstab unless I issued a "sudo mount -a" after boot or included "comment=systemd.automount" in fstab. In either case, its icon does not display anywhere without further prodding. I have Gnome Shell set to "have file manager handle the desktop" and "show mounted volumes on the desktop (Applications -> Accessories -> Advanced Settings -> Desktop); however, my cifs mount does not appear unless I do one of the following: * Open /etc/fstab as root, then save; or * Mount my Windows partition; or * Plug in a removable thumbdrive Doing either of these will cause my cifs mount to appear on my desktop and within the "Computer" icon, along with whatever I had just plugged in or mounted. Until I do one of these things, the only way to access my cifs mount is through its mountpoint within /media/cifs_share/ Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Include Windows cifs network drive in fstab 2. Reboot 3. Observe cifs mount is not displayed or acknowledged anywhere in Gnome Actual Results: CIFS mount not displayed anywhere and is only accessible by navigating to its mountpoint. CIFS mount remains not displayed until /etc/fstab is touched or another partition or removable drive is mounted. Expected Results: CIFS volumes in fstab should appear and be made available upon system bootup. --- Comment #1 from Brian Doe <briandoe1@gmail.com> 2012-01-07 19:59:16 UTC --- Adding a little extra information I uncovered: As I noted before, I do not get any icons for my cifs mounts upon bootup unless I do something to trigger it (mounting a removable drive/partition, etc). However, I discovered that if I do nothing, my cifs mount will eventually appear, somewhere around 10-15 minutes after I boot up and log in. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in openSUSE since the time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a current, supported openSUSE version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly reopen this bug and move it to the tested version of openSUSE. Truly yours. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
